About the role

The City of Bloomington is hiring part-time Ice Garden Specialists for the Bloomington Ice Garden, the city's arena on West 98th Street. The job used to be called Zamboni Driver, and that is still the core of it: resurfacing the ice on the posted schedule and doing the other ice maintenance the supervisor assigns.

You also keep the building clean and ready, including locker rooms, bathrooms, lobbies, bleachers, and hallways. Some shifts include the rink office, where you sharpen skates, answer the phone, and use the point of sale system. In winter you shovel and salt the sidewalks and exits, and you help open or close the building.

The arena is open year round, usually from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., including weekends and holidays. Hours run 8 to 24 a week depending on the game and rental schedule, and you report to the Facility Supervisor. Nights and weekends are required.

The posted range is $17.44 to $20.40 an hour, with a starting wage of $17.44 to $18.86. The job is part-time and not eligible for benefits. The city accepts applications on a continuous basis.
