About the role

The City of Edina, Minnesota, is hiring part-time seasonal attendants for its outdoor skating rinks. An attendant runs one rink and its warming house for the shift: opening up, keeping skaters safe, and closing down at the end of the night.

While the rink is open you greet skaters, enforce the rink rules, and keep an eye on the ice. You count attendance, write up maintenance problems, incidents, and injuries, and sometimes help with activities for children and families. Housekeeping is part of the job too: shovelling walkways, sweeping and vacuuming, tidying skates, and general cleaning.

The season runs from 19 December to 16 February, depending on the weather and ice, with required training in mid-December. Rinks are open weekday evenings from 4:30 to 9 p.m., Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., and Sundays from 1 to 8 p.m., with longer hours over the school holidays.

Applicants must be 16 or older, reliable, friendly with the public, and able to work alone. The city would like people available for 10 to 25 hours a week. Pay is $12.75 to $15.94 an hour, and the posting stays open until filled.
