About the role
The City of Farmington, Minnesota, Parks and Recreation department is hiring seasonal skating instructors for its Learn to Skate USA program. Instructors teach children to skate in group lessons following the U.S. Figure Skating curriculum.
In a lesson you supervise the group on the ice, break each skill down and demonstrate it, and tell skaters what they are doing well and what to work on. You also help plan lessons and schedules, and you assess each skater against the level requirements to decide who is ready to move up.
Shifts vary and can fall on days, evenings, and weekends, set by the Recreation Supervisor around your availability.
The city looks for instructors who know the Learn to Skate USA program, can demonstrate the skills they teach, and communicate well with children and parents. The city also wants instructors who stay patient and calm when a class gets busy. Pay is $16.04 to $17.28 an hour. The city notes that a pay study under way may change the wage range around January 2027. Applications close on 30 November 2026.
