About the role
AEG is hiring a part-time Utility Operator for Crypto.com Arena in downtown Los Angeles, home of the Los Angeles Kings. The utility operator works with the arena's camera crew during events, controlling and shading cameras and supporting the operators on the floor.
Before an event you connect each camera to its camera control unit, run cable from the media panels to the camera position, and tape down any part of the run that could trip someone. During the game you follow the handheld camera as it moves for shots, feeding out slack cable and wrapping it up neatly as the operator changes position.
You also watch the operator's blind side and back to keep them safe, and run to the control room for batteries, tape, or a spare headset when needed. Handheld cameras weigh up to 30 pounds, and stoppages can call for a quick move from sitting to standing.
AEG lists the pay scale as $70.00 without saying whether that is per hour or per shift. The posting notes that part-time staff may qualify for benefits under the ACA.
