About the role

Oak View Group, which manages PPL Center in downtown Allentown, is hiring a part-time Zamboni Operator. PPL Center is home to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, the AHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, and seats about 8,500 for hockey.

The operator drives the Zamboni and keeps the rink equipment in working order. That includes the dasher boards, glass, netting, subfloor, edgers, goal nets, and the Jet Ice system. You work with the facilities staff to get the ice right for every event that uses it.

The building also holds concerts, family shows, and trade shows, so you help put the ice in and take it out, and help the operations crew turn the floor over between events. Shifts can be long and irregular and include nights, weekends, and holidays, in very cold or hot conditions.

The pay is $14 to $19 an hour, and part-time staff can join the 401(k) with matching. The posting stays open until December 31, 2026.

Responsibilities

  • Resurface the ice with the Zamboni before and during events
  • Maintain and repair rink equipment such as dasher boards, glass, safety netting, subfloor, and edgers
  • Work with the facilities department on ice conditions for each ice event
  • Help install and remove the ice surface
  • Help the operations crew with event changeovers

Requirements

  • Trained to operate Zamboni ice resurfacing machines
  • A good working knowledge of OSHA rules
  • Able to stand, bend, climb ladders, and work in very cold or hot conditions for long periods
  • Able to follow detailed instructions and talk clearly with the rest of the crew
  • Available for long, irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays
